This can sometimes happen but it's nothing nefarious. In our emails we use "Single Sign On" (SSO), which means when you click a link or a button in a GroupValet email, you are automatically logged in to our website and the action is automatically taken - for instance, if you click the Thumbs Up button in our email, you will be logged into GroupValet and automatically signed up. We do this to make life easy and convenient for you.
However, some recipient firewalls run scans on incoming emails and will test random links in the emails to ensure they go to a legitimate website. This helps prevent spam from getting into your inbox. While this can happen with any large Internet Service Provider, such as Gmail, AOL, Comcast, etc, it's more likely to happen with a company-run or personal-run email domain, where the email address ends in something like @YOUR_COMPANY_NAME.com.
In these cases, the email is received and before it is delivered to your inbox, this scan run. The scan may randomly test the link behind the Thumbs Up button or the link behind the Cancel button. Once the scan is complete, the email will be delivered to your inbox, but the action has already been taken. From your perspective it will seem like someone signed you up or cancelled you without your knowledge.
We take precautions to try to minimize the impact of these scans, but there is no way to completely prevent them.
If this happened to you, simply Cancel or Sign Up again, and then contact the administrator of your email and ask them to whitelist the groupvalet.com domain. If they have any questions they can contact us at info@groupvalet.com and we'll be happy to assist.
