Before we get into how to change the group captain, let's define the roles of the different member types.

Captain

This is the person whose name is on the group.  The captain is no different than a manager but for this one exception. The person who creates the group is automatically the captain, but that can be changed following the steps below.

Manager

A manager is a group member who is able to see the Manage tab on the group page.  As such, a manager can access all the items under the Manage tab.  The captain is automatically a manager.  Managers are able to see any activity that is set up in Test Mode.

There is no limit on how many managers a group can have. If you want all group members to have access to the Manage tab (not recommended, but allowed) simply make everyone a manager.

Member

Any non-manager member of the group.  Members cannot see or access the Manage tab and members cannot see activities that are in Test Mode.

How to change the Group Captain

1. Log into www.groupvalet.com (this can only be done on the website, not in the app).

2. Click the My Groups tab, go to your group and click the Go to Group Homepage button.

3. On the left, click the Manage tab and then click Group Settings.

4. The Group Captain field will be a list of all current group members.  Select the member that should now be the captain.

5. Important - changing the captain does NOT change the settings for any activities (such as who should receive the Participant List or whose name the notices should be sent from).  If you scroll down the form, you'll see a field for each activity in the group, like this

Changing the owner name will update who receives the Participant List.

6. You should also click the edit link and make sure the settings are correct for who the notices are sent from and what name is in the subject line.  When you click edit, that will open in a new browser tab.

7. After you have made any changes to the subject line and from options, go back to your original browser tab, scroll to the bottom of the Group Settings form and click Update.
